"Self Help"

The realistic dilemma of "Self Help" books for a believer and follower of Christ! We live in a society that screams, "I can do it on my own", and if not I'll read about it. Shelves are lined with self-help books, and many are sold in Christian book stores. As a believer we are to deny ourselves, and take up our cross daily as we follow Christ! (Matt. 16:24) We are to do the complete opposite of the self-help mindset as an overcomer. Walking with our allegiance and dependence upon Lord is an act of obedience, and it's one that should not be taken lightly. Look to the examples with His disciples when they left all to follow Christ! Casting our nets and pulling in the catch of the day without the Lords help can be futile. The results with self-help may bring feelings of shame and inferiority. It can create unrealistic expectations, and bring the worlds view of happiness. God’s Word tells us; "We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and our soul knows it very well." (Ps. 139:14) If our soul knows it very well, why do we seek self-help books to fill the yearning of our hearts? Hundreds of promising titles that can lead to the destruction of a life! Jeremiah tells us, "You will seek Me and find Me, if you seek Me with all of your heart". (29:13)." Taking time out each day to meditate upon Gods Holy Word is necessary for the Spirit filled life. Our love and affection for Him will grow more intense as time goes on. Will you take time out today and rest in His presence? He loves you and is waiting for you to sit at His feet. Blessings. mab
